FRINGE ARTS BATH CALL FOR INTEREST 2010
FAB is Bath’s only visual arts festival and we are looking for new projects and new people for 2010. Our dates for next year’s festival are confirmed as Friday May 28th to Sunday June 13th. We actively promote and celebrate contemporary art in the Bath area and beyond, showcasing early career artists and curators, and those who find it difficult to break into (or prefer to operate outside of) the gallery based art scene. 7. The Romanian spirit and culture-Livia Stoica
I would like to curate a cultural event promoting Romania, which combines street acts/performances, such as live Romanian music/dances and free tasting of Romanian cuisine, with a visual art exhibition.
The exhibition will focus on the progress of Romania, more specifically on the identity of the Romanian people and how this got fragmented over time.
It will be divided in four main sections, each focusing on significant elements of the Romanian mentality. These are:
1. Little Paris- focus on the period 1920s-1940s: la belle époque
2. The Golden Age- focus on the communist period
3. The Land of Dada- focus on contemporary Romania (present tradition/folklore versus innovation)
4. What if…? - focus on famous Romanian inventions (how people take things as granted; questioning what our lives would be like without certain objects)
The exhibition will also explore the relationship between various modes through which one can express art, however focusing on conceptual art/non-traditional media. As a result, a wide range of mediums will be used: photography, random objects, lighting installation, acting (costumed people, living statues/frozen mime/tableau).
Please email with examples of work and proposals to get involved with the project this is an open call out to all artists
